Whom are the tourists that visit Chile?
A recent study by Sernatur revealed five types of tourists visiting Chile, to develop a profile for each of them will be an exercise which is the key in developing the national supply.
The various studies that have been made to study the behavior of tourism in Chile have revealed, among other things, what are the destinations most visited by tourists, of whom stands Santiago, Valparaiso, San Pedro de Atacama and the landscapes of the Patagonia, but who they are and what they want these tourists who visit our country? Every year more than 3.6 million and a SERNATUR study entitled "Characterization of tourist demand potential in Chile" has attempted to elucidate the profile of these travelers.
There are five types and each has its own characteristics and special interests, which have enabled the development of categories that can then be applied in developing bidding strategies to turn the country into a desired destination for travelers.
First are the culture lovers who prefer to visit towns with history, museums and monuments, then the adventurers who are characterized by independent travel more and opt for outdoor activities, the lovers of the nightlife and cuisine who generally choose most typical and whose profile is friendly and outgoing.
Another group are called specified beholders who opt for more relaxing activities and often travel in groups and, finally, the group of athletes who prefer destinations which enable them to develop sports activities such as surfing, fishing or skiing.
The figures derive from tourism as a concept that foreign visit in 2009 tourism generated revenue of more than U.S. $ 1,978 million, make it as expressed by the director of the National Tourism Service, Jacqueline Plass, the meeting tourists visiting the country is "key if we want to develop an attractive offer and become a desired destination for travelers"
