If you don’t have much time but would like to get to know the lake Chungará and the National Park Lauca, we recommend this one-day excursion to the Chilean Altiplano.
Not only will you visit the Lago Chungará, the highest lake in the world, but you will also discover the Lluta Valley, the picturesque village of Poconchile, the exotic flora and fauna of the National Park Lauca, the beautiful Cotacotani Lagoons and the small town of Putre.
We start the tour from your hotel at 7:30 in the morning to cross the Lluta Valley where you can observe geoglyphs that date from 1000 years before Christ. We pass the village of Poconchile, the fort Pukara of Copaquilla and stop in Zapahuira to have breakfast. Then we continue to the viewpoint of Putre and enter the National Park Lauca where you can appreciate the exotic flora and fauna surrounded by a majestic scenery, the volcanoes Payachatas and the Lake Chungara, which is the highest in the world (4.517m). On our way back we will visit the lagoons Cotacotani, the village Parinacota and after having lunch in Putre we return to Arica on the same route.
