Journey to Arica - Putre - Lake Chungara - National Park Lauca - Salt Lake Surire - Arica (3 days/ 2 nights)

This roundtrip is ideal to get to know the wonders of the Chilean Altiplano. In three days, you can explore the fascinating National Park Lauca and the National Reserve Las Vicuñas.

Enjoy the peaceful setting in this still rather unexplored region and take your time to observe flora and fauna. Take in the views at the Salt Lake Surire, watch the flamingos take a bath in the turquoise waters and learn more about the ecosystem of the salt-covered lake. Of course, you will also visit the Lake Chungará, one of the main attractions in the North.

  • Day 1 Day 1. Arica – Altiplano – Putre

    We start from your hotel towards the Market Asoagro (typical fruit and vegetable market), then continue to the Azapa Valley where we observe various geoglyphs. Afterwards we visit the archaeological mueseum of Azapa, then cross the fertile Lluta Valley and pass the village of Poconchile. You will see the candelabra cactuses, the fort Pukara of Copaquilla, have lunch in Zapahuira and after visiting the village of Socoroma we finally get to Putre (3.500m).

  • Day 2 Day 2. Putre – Vicuña Nationalo Reserve – Salt Lake Surire – Putre

    Departure from Putre to the Vicuña National Reserve, passing the villages of Ancuta and Guallatire; appreciating the volcano Guallatire. We arrive at the Salt Lake Surire (4,200 m) around noon where we realice a tasty Picnic,enjoy  panoramic views and a relaxing bath at the termal baths of Polloquere. Finally we return to the town of Putre.

  • Day 3 Day 3. Putre – National Park Lauca – Lake Chungara – Parinacota – Arica

    In the morning we depart from Putre towards the National Park Lauca.  We realize a small hike at Las Cuevas („The Caves“), appreciating the flora and fauna of the highlands in the North of Chile, then we visit the viewpoints of Chucuyo and the Lagoons of Cotacotani. We stop in the village of Parinacota to finally get to the Lake Chungara (4.500m), the highest lake in the world. On our way back you can enjoy a relaxing bath at the Thermal Baths of Jurasi, then we make our way to the city of Arica.
